This week on GuildCast, Shawn and Rubi talk about the mass bannings in Guild Wars courtesy of ArenaNet and Dhuum.  See ya, bots.  We also speculate on the potential for awesome Guild Wars 2 merchandise after looking at the merchandise survery — socks, underwear, and computer cases.  What more do you really need?  Finally, we talk all about the Personal Story information given in Ree Soesbee‘s ArenaNet blog post and followup Q and A.

Wow. Good podcast as always, Shawn, Rubi. I also find it hilarious that right before Guildcast came back, I had gotten back into Guild Wars. I was once a proud follower and listener of Guildcast, and so I am once again :3

Great stuff here! Shawn over at I Love Guild Wars had a post up a while back about the need of a central hub for all fan blogs.

I quite agree. The ArenaNet affiliate site program is really nice, but your basic fan blog (the kind that just documents player activity, maybe does a guide every now and then, doesn’t host forums) doesn’t fit into their definitions very well. The best I’ve been able to do so far is just putting links up on my blogroll.

  3. Hey, any chance of either linking to, or rehosting the old GuildCast episodes? Virginworlds seems to have deleted them, and Guildcast.com’s gone. Thanks for the show, I’m subscribed and waiting for your commentary on the new info.

Awesome! I am so excited to see this back to life!

  5. I was talking to my brother today about GW2, and GW (I’ve only recently got back into GW, but have been following it passively through watching GuildWiki edits – started again when I saw the War in Kryta campaign kicking into full force), one of the conversation lines was:
Him: “Do you think GuildCast will come back”
Me: “No chance, Shawn’s got better things to do, he’s editor in chief of Massively.com now”

Later, he goes to guru, and sees on the front page “GuildCast is Back!”.

    Guess I was wrong, then.

With regards to player cynicism towards hype about GW2’s dynamic content/unique storyline based on your characters decisions etc…

“Within a Guild Wars quest you have unprecedented freedom and power to manipulate the world around you; with the dynamic quest system, your accomplishments have a unique influence on your future.”

Yeah, we had the same hype about Guild Wars (Prophecies) back in 2004/2005, same buzzwords etc… look at the Guild Wars website gameplay/synopsis or dig through some old Jeff Strain interviews. We have reason to be cynical.
