The War in Kryta is over, Princess Salma is now Queen Salma, the fate of Langmar and Thackeray leaves Gwen crying in the Hall of Monuments, and we wait anxiously to hear what happened to everyone else.
Finally, Shawn got a copy of Ghosts of Ascalon! He wrote a great review, and we spent some time chatting with co-author Jeff Grubb. You can hear our interview with Jeff today, and check out the text on Massively if you’re so inclined. ArenaNet has released the first chapter on the Guild Wars 2 site, and the first three chapters are available through iBooks. If you’re having trouble viewing them, a (wonderful) Guild Wars 2 Guru forum poster pulled together screenshots. Check them out on GW2G and make sure to leave him a note of thanks!

how extreme are the spoilers?
just got to the part about the book and its uber spoilers … if you dont want to know what happens skip ahead.
Great episode! What with the Necro and Mesmer semi-confirmed, what are the other Professions gonna be?
It is starting to sound like half of your abilities are based on profession/weapon combination and the other half are based on race with maybe a few decided by both. It’s getting confusing.
I might just have to pick this up when it comes out. (meaning the book)
5 skills are predetermined based on profession and weapon combination. Players equip weapons in their main hand and offhand, or two hands. Most professions can easily and quickly swap between two weapon sets in combat.
5 skills are chosen by the player from a pool of skills based on profession and race. Of these, 1 skill slot is dedicated to healing, and 1 skill slot is dedicated to an Elite skill.
This is the most basic combat system every GW2 follower should know
Great intro, great episode!
Yes I saw the Great Dane too, on the serpent strike video. Also in the beginning you mentioned a “confusion” on the pets level and evolution. I believe they mention in a recent interview that the pets level will be a reflection of your level. However evolutions of the pet are dependent on experience they gain. So you have to use your pet in order for it to evolve and unlock the skill slots, up to 4. Also it seems that pets evolve individually, so if let’s say you have 3 pets then you would have to work on each one separately in order to unlock those 4 skills for each one.
Avoided the spoilers, now I just need to hibernate until the 27th.
assassin will probably be one of the next classes revealed because the char has the ash legion that specializes in stalkers and assassins. don’t know if it will be called an assassin though.
The great dane was the human ‘racial skill’ I think. Someone mentioned it before…but I cannot remember where. The overlay of the map (old Tyria and Book map) I adjusted a bit in photoshop to look like one map…if you are interested:
